North Petherton RFC

North Petherton RFC, founded in 1893, is located in the heart of the west country just off the M5. They boast 2 seniors male XVs who play in Regional 2 South West, and Counties 3 Somerset South. Alongside this, they have a very strong female set up with their XV playing in the Women’s NC 1 South West league. It is not just senior players either; they have a fantastic youth set up that includes minis and juniors from U6s all the way up to colts and U18s.

Requirements:

Previously North Petherton had an electronic scoreboard but wanted to update their board to something more personalised and something that is easier to use. The scoreboard needs to be visible from across the length of their pitch (as it is situated behind the dead ball area at one end) and should be able to be controlled from anywhere around the 1st XV pitch. They already have two posts concreted into the ground and a power supply already installed; the board should work with both of these.

Their club colours are predominantly black and white, with their kit featuring black and white hoops. These colours should be incorporated into the design of the board whilst also keeping the text nice and visible. They wanted to include their logo too if possible.

This new scoreboard is to be used by all senior teams on match days, and to be sometimes used by youth teams when their fixtures are played on the main pitch. For this reason the controller needs to be simple to use and understand as many different people could be picking it up for the first time.

Our Solution:

Working with North Petherton RFC our team put together a proposal for a 6-digit personalised rugby scoreboard. With a maximum score of 199 points for both home and away this is a great option for rugby clubs as scores can sometimes break triple figures!

A simple black board with white writing was proposed, with their acorn logo featuring prominently next to the ‘NPRFC’ text. We used white LED segments to match the white text on the front of the board and equipped the rear of the board with sign rails so it could easily be mounted onto the two posts already in the ground.

The power supply was already installed and so this board used a standard 230v plug to connect to an outdoor socket. Our unique Scoreboards Online remote control was paired with the board meaning it can be controlled from anywhere around the 1s XV pitch, but most importantly can be controlled from the main stand when watching a game.
